Alaska Airlines Visa Credit Card 25,000 miles signup bonus + $99 companion pass

When you apply for a new Alaska Airlines Visa Credit Card you can earn 25,000 bonus miles. The card carries an annual fee of $75 per year (no first year waiver though). However, if you live close to one of the airports that they fly to, their annual $99 companion pass easily covers the annual fee.

This companion pass unlike a lot of other misleading/falesly advertised companion passes is a true companion pass. You can use the pass on any fare, anywhere they fly, no restrictions. Even a fully refundable fare, flying to Hawaii or Mexico. This is especially a great value during peak travel season when fares can be $1000+ per person. Another benefit of this card is the card holder gets two Alaska Airlines’ Boardroom Passes (lounge) every year around the card anniversary which can be handy on many occasions.

What I especially like about Alaska Frequent Flyer program is their wide range of major partners ranging from American, Delta, Korean, Air France, KLM, Qantas, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iceland Air and LAN. There are other smaller regional partners too like Era Air, Kenmore Air and PenAir.

Please note that you can get 5,000 referral bonus when you refer someone who gets approved for this card.

  1. Kush says:

Can the companion fare be used with an award redemption? And if it can, is it only with Alaska flights or can it be used with partner rewards?

  2. AwardGuru says:

Companion certificate in this specific case is applicable only for paid revenue tickets for flights operated marketted and operated by Alaska Airlines and its subsidiaries. The certificate is also not applicable for award tickets, on Alaska or any of its partners. Thus, this certificate is valuable only for those who can fly from and to the airports served within Alaska Airlines’ network, example Chicago (ORD) to Maui, HI (OGG) via Seattle-Tacoma (SEA) or Newark (EWR) to Los Cabos, Mexico (SJD). Round-trip fares on a lot of distant city pairs within AS network can easily cross a thousand dollars during peak travel season.
